First Look at Prabal Gurung Fall 2012

A constraint mayhem psychedelic digital print’s dominated the show stopping NYFW shoe which was Prabal Gurung Fall 2012, along with ‘awe-inspiring’ opulent feather embossed column gowns and the surfacing of a rich colour palette.

It could be said that the flawless floor sweeping gowns resembled those of Givenchy, yet Gurung tackled the season in such a way as to identify himself and his intergalactic aesthetic. Emerging in constructed dark ensembles of sleek black capes, military style hats, cut-out dresses and long fur-coats the ‘true colours’ of Gurung began to surface (as we were all hoping for) with electric blues, golds, bronze shades and pearlescent whites intermingling to forge a show stopping collection. Fiercely donning gorgeous smokey blue eyes and slick straight hair, the eclectic manner of the collection developed to evoke a South-Western stylistic approach, in prints of cow skulls and desert roses which were omnipresent throughout the collections accessories of chokers, collars and belts.

Conceptually resembling Thierry Mugler, the lacework, feathers and sheer fabrics provided ornate garments with a geometric focus. Form-fitting silhouettes gave way to blue and black dresses with a repeating pattern of roses, ostrich feather skirts and delicate trains, Swarovski studded show stoppers and a flawless floor sweeping gold lame dress. My definite favourite collection from NYFW so far, but the season has only just started.

with love.
